'Don't build a business around your passion.' Agree or disagree?
Here's what I think AND what I have done..............
Don't try and build a business around what you are passionate about.'
Why not?
I am hearing too many 'thought leaders' and 'business influencers' saying that.
Well, I have and I recommend you do too. GiFT631 is a massive part of my life and I love what we do (help people/teams/businesses move in the direction of their potential). I believe passion sells, people can sense passion and people are drawn to passionate people who truly care about what they do and why.
However, beneath the headlines, I do believe you need MORE than just passion alone. I believe the sweet spot is where passion meets opportunity and mastery.
You need mastery to stand out and above your competition. You need to be really good at what you do.
You also need there to be opportunity for what you do. You can love and be really good at something but if there is little opportunity it is likely to remain a hobby or side-hustle.
Equally you can love to do something and there is opportunity for it in the market place but unless you have mastery, there is a strong chance the business will go to those who do it better than you.
If this sweet spot aligns to your purpose, you will find a way to open doors and have the resilience/persistence to keep going until you do. Once opened, success breeds success and you get into momentum, fuelling your passion, mastery (driven by frequency) and further opportunities.
