How do you move in the direction of 'Futureyou'?
Questions to help you move from where you are to where you want to go.
So many people I meet are reconsidering fundamental aspects of their lives. For some, I see dramatic change as a result, whilst for others there remains a restlessness - a desire to do things differently but a lack of courage to set SMUUT goals (a really BIG goal - I will explain the detail of a SMUUT goal in a future post) and then go after them.
Effectively these people need to:
decide (what they really want) to
commit (that you do really want the change required) and then to
go (to take action to move in the direction of what you want).
Getting started is easy as you are full of energy, passion and enthusiasm. As you get towards the finishing line - the achievement of your goal and/or desired future state, things also get easier. The energy and a real buzz returns as you sense success.
It is the bit in the middle that is the challenge. Professor Damian Hughes calls this the 'messy middle.’ You have lost sight of the start line but have no sight of the finish line. Energy and motivation are waning and you need the discipline of winning habits and frameworks to keep going. It is when your resilience and you ability to persist matter most.
To help on this journey, particularly those still contemplating here are 10 (sets of) questions that I recently put together for a coaching client. If nothing else, these questions are powerful for your Mozart time (time for yourself and by yourself - see my last article). Either tackle them in one sitting or take a couple a day. Spending time working through them will help you start moving in your chosen direction and then help you through the messy middle (along with many of the other GiFT631 frameworks and strategies).
Here you go:
How clear is your life vision? Have you written it down? How often do you talk about it? Visualise it? Think about it?
How clear are your goals for the next 12 months? Does achieving them move you in the direction of this life vision? Have you written them down?
How do you visually represent your vision and goals?
How strong is your belief system? How could it be stronger?
How do you respond to a setback? How do you bounce back quickly to continue moving in the direction of your vision and goals?
What is holding you back? What is stopping you? (Focus on the world as it is and not the way it was or the way you want it to be).
What are your business superpowers? What are you really good and really passionate about?
What do you need to learn/improve to help you keep moving in the direction of your goals?
What would you love to achieve over the next 90 days? How are you going to do it? What do you need to start and what do you need to stop? What do you need to do more of?
How and when will you allocate time to ensure you prioritise what really matters to you?
As always, please feel free to learn/copy +10%. Add your own winning edge to these questions. The list is not exhaustive but is sufficient to get you thinking and get you started. Please add your own questions in the comments.
If I can help on your journey in anyway - please reach out.
