Simple learnings from the first phase of GiFT631
A few thoughts before 2024 sees a major business transition!
It is well over 6 years since I took the plunge, left the corporate world and set up GiFT631. I have survived and thrived through a global pandemic, defined and refined my purpose, brand and products, published my first book and extended the business internationally. I still feel I am just getting going and want to achieve so much more. Mid December to my next UK visit at the end of Jan 2024 is my time to do 4 things:
Relax! Spend much needed time for myself and with my family/friends.
Think! Invest in mega Mozart time sessions to reposition the business for scale and enhanced value in 2024 and beyond.
Write! Look to complete the first draft of book 2 and also write 2 online programmes. (Record them too?)
Run! Major effort needed to get my fitness back, so I have the energy and stamina for all I have planned for next year.
I believe there are 6 key learnings that are worthy of sharing:
1) Have clarity of purpose AND goal. Understanding your why is fundamental. It inspires you and keeps you going during tough moments and times. It becomes your north star and helps ensure you pass your own Rocking Chair Test. Having clear goals are equally important to give you focus and direction. One needs the other. Breaking your goals down using the 1+3+6 process gives you simple clear daily actions to create momentum and progress. Over the last 6 years, clients who have worked this process have made incredible progress.
2) Back yourself, (regardless of the opinions of others). I listen to constructive feedback but avoid those with a cynical, negative, unhelpful attitude, particularly those sitting on the sidelines. To improve my confidence & belief system continuous self-development matters. So does working on my mindset daily & continually seeking quality feedback from people/clients I trust. The mindset section of The Rocking Chair Test is having a major impact for those who use the techniques I share. What are you doing in this critical area? Are you talking yourself in or out of opportunity?
3) Be action orientated. My 'decide-commit-go!' philosophy has helped me avoid overthinking, 2nd guessing myself and procrastinating. I believe it is better to start and then adapt as opposed to waiting and seeking perfection which can lead to opportunities and momentum being lost. I soon worked out that not all action has the same value, so I ensure I create clear space and time to focus on the things that matter most.
4) Constantly improve. I have long held the belief that winners debrief more than the average. From the debrief, it is critical to turn the learnings into new or improved actions. Standing still is not an option as complacency is the first step to failure. I also spend consistent time learning and studying successful people. I believe the answers are out there, I just need the desire to find them and then use them!
5) Create a success system. From my perspective success requires the discipline to build a series of winning habits/routines and take consistent action in the direction of your goals. The Disney Institute quote that 'success is 95% systems and 5% magic’. You only get to the 5% magic via the 95% systems.' This evolves and develops over time. For example Mozart time was a really well established part of my daily life before the 4M morning routine came along.
6) Be prepared to #pivot2win. Be flexible, adaptable and willing to change and change again. Success is about maximising what works today and thinking about where the world is going tomorrow, so you can stay relevant.
