Over the years there have been times, normally when my confidence is far from optimal, where I have been influenced or listened to the ‘wrong’ people.
As I have become clearly on my purpose and goals, along with relentlessly working on my self-belief and confidence, I have developed a simple framework in terms of who I listen to and why.
This is it…………
I ignore criticism. Why? It is predominantly negative, destructive and I do not believe it is shared with my best interests at heart.
I love feedback. I believe this comes from a good place and is designed to help me find the 1%ers and continually move in the direction of my potential. I will think about it in my debriefs, my Mozart time and when I am running. When I see the value, I will look to integrate it into my future activity.
I seek advice from those I regard as being successful (we all define success in our own way). The ‘eagles’ are people already soaring at great heights. Highly successful people who I know I can learn from.
Secondly, my trusted ‘winning circle’ - people close to me who can challenge and support me. They are people who I know will be the wind beneath my wings.
Finally those people who I regard as being full of wisdom. I love the concept of the elders passing on the traditions/cultural norms/ golden practices within indigenous cultures. Equally the old wolves in the wolfpack teaching the young cubs the way of the pack in order to enhance survival of the group.
However, I have learnt that wisdom is not solely a feature of age and experience. Mentoring through the generations has taught me to the wisdom of youth in areas such as Ai and social media networking/marketing. Learning from people with different superpowers and from different cultures as well as generations.
This approach has enabled me to constantly grow, refine and soar to ever greater heights. Leave the critics behind, evolve from well intentioned feedback and aspire to be your own version of the eagle and/or tribal elder.
It’s #whatwinnersdo to become #futureyou
