One of the best parts of being in corporate leadership roles was the ability to set aside time to sit with small groups of passionate, customer centric people - people at the ‘sharp end’ of the business. People who interacted with customers on a consistent basis. I always found that by genuinely listening and being interested in the views of such people, coonsistent themes would emerge. These might be ideas on how to improve customer service, remove frustrations, bureaucratic processes and enhance efficiency and team engagement.
I also believe one of my superpowers was to get to the opportunity or the solution and then take action, so people could see I was not a lip service leader who was just ticking a box to say I had done a listening lunch.
I loved the expression ‘you asked, we acted.’ Not mine but one I was very happy to adopt.
As a entrepreneur and a business of two (myself + my VA, Apple who is based in the Philippines and is changing my world already 🙏🦅🙏 - thanks to Manny Martinez in Washington State, USA for putting the idea in my mind. Always listening!!), I have realised that I need to be ever more deeply connected to my clients and to my social media audience. I need to ensure that when you ask, I act.
Here is a great example. Leaha Collins who lives in Victoria, Australia commented on an Instagram Post. Leahs was very complementary about The Rocking Chair Test but asked if there was a way to access the action sheets, I refer to through the book.
We acted and here is a landing page to enable all readers to do just that:
https://gift631.mykajabi.com/the-rocking-chair-test
Over the next period, we will add more action sheets, such as one for the mindcleanse stage of the 4M process.
What’s next? A world class website bringing all the GiFT631/#whatwinnersdo services together in one place - I am super excited to show it to you all!!
I wanted to end today by expressing my sadness at the passing of Sir Michael Parkinson. I had the absolute privilege of spending 40 minutes 1:1 with Sir Michael, in his Brisbane dressing room, after he had an evening speaking engagement. He was totally present, interesting and clearly interested in me, my story and how I had ended up in Brisbane. We spoke about our mutual passion for cricket, life in Australia and so much more. He evidenced how to listen and care in a gentle and engaging way. I left with a treasured possession - a personalised, signed copies of one of his books.
A true master of the art of listening and responding to the needs of his audience.
I asked, he acted!
RiP Sir Michael Parkinson - a true great.
